A mysterious PC-98 game with time-traveling cops and aliens on the titanic?!
What if the Titanic could have been prevented?
What if there were... Erm, time travelling cops, who could go back to 5 hours before the Titanic crashed and stop it?
This was my random game I chose to open today out of my collection, and it's an interesting one.
You start the game familiarizing yourself with your crew, which includes the following: The main character, Alex (This is you).
You are the captain of this mission, and make decisions when it comes to who does what. You're a giant nerd who is fascinated by the story of the Titanic, even being lost for words when you take in the regal inside of the ship (Until Kazumi snaps you out of it.)
Speaking of, here is your right hand woman. Her name is Kazumi. I believe she is your assistant. She keeps your head on straight but is a nice person to be around.
This is Kiddy. From what I can decipher from translation, she is a tomboy who doesn't scoff at having to do any sort of tough work. She's raring to fight if she needs to.
This is Yuki! She's much more on the frail side so don't ask her to go climbing anything. She cries a lot and only meets Alex on this mission.
My translation is probably wrong, but I keep getting the word Charm for her so I will call her that. I can't tell but she might be a priestess?
This is Levia. I think she is one of Alex's superiors, but she's here to help stop the Titanic from sinking.
Interesting cast. What's more interesting is the actual plot. When you start the game, you have only 5 hours left to stop whatever caused the Titanic to sink. Now between you and me, it's the iceberg. But not in this scifi reimagining! So apparently that pervy alien guy that Kiddy messed up? He was controlling people's vision, making it so they couldn't see the entrance to the ship. Odd. Also the moon is red. Charm I think it was alluded to it being part of what cursed the ship. Soooo we got aliens and blood moon shenanigans on the Titanic. You have to pretend to be from this time, but most people you meet on the ship very quickly notice how out of place the main cast looks. Once Kiddy beats up the one alien on the deck, You can choose someone to occompany you on the ship alongside you and Kazumi. I chose Yuki. You have, MANY rooms to look through. Many floors. And remember, only 5 hours! You explore the ship and are looking for some kind of captain.
I looked around some more, and happened upon the writing room. There's a friendly old sailor in there, and you can ask him about anything suspicious he's seen. He laments the fact less and less people are learning to write. He mentions an Archeologist named Wednesday was there, and she seemed a bit quick to hurry. He uses blotting paper to reveal what she had written previously at the crew's request, to reveal some words. "The deepest traces of sleep... The Awakening of the demon... is impossible. But... If we hadn't stopped it, we would have...." The Seaman goes on to say it was addressed to an American University.
She definitely knows something, Kazumi thinks. The seaman directs you to the mail room on the 9th floor to follow the letter. Problem is, there's a suspicious area on the 7th floor guarded by a big guy,who won't let you pass without his permission. He tells you you have to get the captain's permission. Welp. Time to look around again... If that wasn't odd enough, Kazumi will say if spoken to that she senses something unsettling nearby, which Alex doesn't notice. Yuki tells me she noticed her body start to shudder once we were on the 7th floor, like something scary is around.
I ended up going back to the second floor, and checking out the smoking room. It's quite extravagent, but we're quickly told to leave since we aren't first class. And, again, we need cappy's permission. Your crew is chased away like stray cats. So, I went to the lounge. Waltz music plays as you take in royalty and celebs alike taking to the dance floor in their gowns and suits. A golden haired serf asks if you'll attend the ball, with a y/n prompt. I said yes, and Kazumi says she got her dress dirty, so the waiter says he'll get her a new one. Yuki is very excited to get a dress. Kazumi says this is a good chance to get intel. You could say no to getting a dress, but why would you? So you go into the back room with them to see the available outfits. Yuki is bewildered that the dresses are made of real silk, and Kazumi is also surprised. She wondered how much it's all worth.
Based on what you decide to do in there, you can either peek as they change or just leave. (classic pc-98...)
Below is what happens when you do peek, (Kazumi rightfully throws the dress at you) or if you just leave, you happen to see her in a mirror as you leave the room and she doesn't notice.
Anyway, afterwards, you see her come out and... She's beautiful! Like a princess!
Kazumi is notably happy, but unfortunately you don't feel the same way. After all, this music that is playing is the same as the night the Titanic sank.... You can dance or you can ask around. I spoke to a young girl who was too shy to dance, turning down anyone who asked (same tho). Don't try talking to her, let Kazumi do it. If you try, the girl will be too afraid to speak. When Kazumi does, she'll gain confidence in herself and tell you about Wednesday and a man named Dr.Ito with a music box. You can ask Kazumi to dance with you, but she says there's no time to joke around (ouch). I go to talk to a beautifulwoman next. She has the gaze of everyone present, and she approached Alex to ask him to dance. He gets choked up and nervous, asking why he specifically? "A young man here with several women is quite particular... And barbaric ones at that, it's unforgivable. Come dance with me." Kazumi starts to look sullen. And so, we danced. Alex feels light, and on cloud nine. Before he realized, they had danced in the center of the room. All eyes watched their every movement. And then, she steals a kiss.
